A proper base is critical for any successful concrete slab on grade application. It must be properly compacted using industry standard packing equipment, and must also allow for proper slope, and drainage where necessary. The key is to have it as flat as possible so there is less shimming involved and better end results.

Start by assembling the border to form the perimeter of the area. Install isolation material between walls and the border frame. Stake spikes along the border for support and reinforce edges without walls using standard 2 x 4 lumber. Assemble the frame, leaving any edge pieces that may need cutting towards the end of the assembly.

Apply bond breaker to the top of the frame by way of spray applicator or roller. Place concrete in cells by way of overhead boom or line pump with off ground supports. Try and trace the top of the frame with concrete to help keep every thing in place. Depending on the size of cells, as well the design pattern, the system can be installed simultaneously with the concrete placement. For smaller projects, you can also use a multiple wheelbarrow method by placing lumber with supports overtop of the frame acting as a bridge for wheelbarrows to pass over.  Use a long straight edge to ride on top of the frame and screed excess concrete from one cell to another. A bull float can be used to smooth out initial surface.Once concrete sets, begin to finish concrete using common finishing practices in the concrete industry. Stamping and sealing are optional. The top of frame can also be quick zipped and grouted or filled with polymeric sand of any colour.

Absolutely. Once the concrete sets, the finishing process can be tailored to meet specific preferences. For Larger projects the top of the frame can be changed from black (Standard colour) to almost any colour you desire directly from our factory. For smaller projects. An angle grinder can quick zip the top of the frame so that it can either be grouted or filled with polymeric sand of your colour of choice. Options such as grinding and polishing, Stamping, roll in texture, machine finish, broom finish, exposed aggregate etc. are also available as additional customization choices for the final aesthetic touch. The system accommodates most of the popular finishes in the industry.

The frame itself is 5” high. In certain light foot traffic areas, you can reduce the thickness of concrete by adding aggregate in the cells as a filler.

Unless you are constructing a structural slab requiring excessive amounts of steel. Mid panel reinforcement such as rebar and wire mesh are only used as an insurance marker on a slab on grade so when the slab cracks or fails, the reinforcement keeps the cracks tight though they are still very noticeable. When installed to Honeycrete® cell size specifications, the frame itself will move and flex as required to reduce shrinkage and curling stresses. Although each panel is completely separate and independent from each other. They are all fastened together to form a large concrete slab. Since the slab is designed not to crack, in the first place, there is no reason to have any steel reinforcement to keep any cracks together.
